Cyrpto Trading System

I built a cyrpto-currency trading platform in two months. I took a system written in Javascript and rewrote the whole thing(35000 lines of code) in Rust and made it 60x more memory-efficient. The system was connecting directly to cryptocurrency networks and we would parse the transactions and process them inside the rust process and push the results to the web front-end written in React.

Fractional Real Estate

Started a company with the aim of enabling fractional real estate investments in Turkey. The regulatory bodies weren’t ready for the leap so had to end the project prematurely. We developed AI to analyze and present 75000 neighborhoods in Turkey from a real estate investment point of view. Also had a project to do Automatic Valuations on real estate using AI. Payko was mainly an AI company.

Built various backend projects including a system for demand prediction. Toolio is a merchandise planning platform for small/mid-size retailers. I mainly built forecasting and demand prediction related projects. Took projects from start to finish and customers were happy with the results.

Video Hub for Sales/Marketing/HR Teams

Built a company around making emails more social. We helped companies embed video messages in emails and track their performance. We were an all-around white-labeled video hosting, sharing, tracking website for companies of all sizes. Built the video server, caching system, video encoding system and almost all of the website on my own. Managed a team building a Chrome extension and doing sales and marketing. At the height of it we were 8 people.

High Frequency Trading

Working on opening up the Turkey branch, interviewing tens of people and developing software. Built a top-notch trading GUI from scratch in Python.
On the strategy side written in C, I made improvements to store, manipulate, log and transfer the data new GUI needs. Fixed old bugs, made various performance improvements. Started working on building tools to analyze the market data to understand and predict when sudden market shifts happen.

Online Learning Marketplace

Suggested and built ~50% of the most successful products built during my time there, including the Course Feed, Notifications, Wishlist and Course Previews.
Built note taking and a new course landing page.
Initiated and finalized infrastructure projects like Memcache caching layer and Redis-based backend for feed and notifications. Decreased the API response time by 50%. Started the code review process.

Onedio is an internet media company similar to Buzzfeed, focusing on Turkey, Russia, Arab countries and the U.K. During my time there, I built a full-fledged custom-built e-commerce system embedded in Onedio.com and Onedio mobile applications. Also, I built the RSS feed, Content Bulk Uploader, the 'reading time' feature and more.

Standout iOS App

Built a tool to detect clothes inside real life photos. Using it we built an iPhone app, called Standout, which is like Instagram-for-street-fashion. Users can double tap on individual clothes in pictures to like them.

Ads Optimization Team

Worked on improving the Click-through rate estimation model. Noticed we could use the number of friends to better estimate the Click-through rate of users. Starting with this, I led the social feature extraction efforts and 11 new features I found provided substantial improvement over the old model. This probably ended up increasing the annual revenue of Facebook by more than $25M.

Website Tour Builder

Built a website that lets anyone create explanatory tours for their website without writing any code. Got backed by the most prestigious incubator in Turkey called E-tohum(1% acceptance rate). Hired and lead a team of three developers. Grew the user base to 1500 website owners.

DrawAndSee - Collaborative Drawing Tool

Won the Facebook's SoCal Camp Hackathon in 2011. We built drawandsee.com under 24 hours as a team of 4 to let people draw on a shared canvas while they are on a group video chat.
Facebook engineers said they thought the application would be impossible to create in 24 hours.
Also competed in and got the 4th place at US-wide Facebook Intercollegiate Final Hackathon. Built 'Instagram location stories' as a standalone mobile app - years before Instagram did it.

Chess AI

Developed a chess-playing AI using the minimax algorithm. Experimented with lots of heuristics and methods including but not limited to alpha-beta pruning, iterative deepening, adaptive move reordering, position hashing and an advanced position evaluation function.
