Built a tool to detect clothes inside real life photos(the same tool we used to build Favogue at Semantica Inc.). Using it we built an iPhone app, called Standout, which is like Instagram-for-street-fashion. Users can double tap on individual clothes in pictures to like them. Also, they can leave comments on individual clothes.
The idea was to eventually really streamline the cloth discovery and purchasing experience by saving the address and credit card information of the user and implementing one-click shopping. So, Amazon experience combined with Instagram's discovery, focusing only on Instagram's fashion sub-culture.
Gilt's Co-founder & CEO Alexis Maybank launched an app with the exact same idea (called Project September) which is one of the main reasons why our startup died.
